Diagnose and Treat Pet Eye Diseases

At Ramsey Animal Clinic, we work closely with pet owners  to identify the source of eye symptoms and to develop a treatment plan  that meets the needs of the pet and their owner. We are experienced in  the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions interfering with  your pet’s vision and the long-term health of the eyes.

Indications of Eye Disease in Pets

There are a variety of symptoms that are indicative of a possible eye  condition or disease in your pet, some subtler than others. Obvious  symptoms of an eye problem include watery eyes, excessive blinking,  squinting, redness, puffiness, and pawing at the eyes or face. Subtle  indicators of pet eye disease include weight loss and dehydration,  causing the eyes to appear sunken. Tetanus is a serious disease that  also causes sunken eyes. Conversely, tumors, abscesses, or even glaucoma  may cause bulging in or around the eye. Infections, foreign objects in  the eye, or other problems tend to cause general irritation and redness.  All of these problems warrant a prompt call to your Ramsey Animal Clinic veterinarian.

Eye Symptoms: A Call to Action

Pets demonstrating pain in or around the eyes should be brought to  the veterinarian immediately. Eye pain symptoms include tenderness,  whining, sensitivity to light, excessive tears, loss of appetite, and  rubbing or pawing at the face. A noticeable decrease in vision or  suspected blindness is a serious problem as well.

Your pet’s vision is so important that we recommend calling us at the  first sign of concern. While not every symptom will result in a serious  diagnosis, acting promptly might very well save your companion’s  vision.
